Finalmente arriva anche su Windows uno dei migliori software per la gestione di font, Fontexplorer X della Linotype… e se non ce ne capiscono loro qualcosa di font, non so chi altro… Questo programmino ha inoltre un grande vantaggio, che interesserà soprattutto noi poveri morti di fame… è aggratis! Niente demo, niente limitazione di tempo ecc… semplicemente contiene (un po’ come itunes) dei link al loro negozio di font, ma è decisamente un “Limite con il quale si può tranquillamente vivere.

Per il resto il programma supporta tutte le più comuni funzioni di management: attivare e disattivare font, vederne un’anteprima, trovare e risolvere conflitti, attivazione automatica ecc…

Se lavorate molto con i font dateci un’occhiata, anche se è ancora una versione beta, sembra essere comunque abbastanza stabile per l’utilizzo quotidiano.

Faccio un po’ fatica a seguire tutti i blog che mi interessano al momento, così certe cose mi arrivano in differita. Bombo, nominato da me per proseguire la catena in questo post, ha fatto il suo bel pirata un po’ di tempo fa. Eccolo qui:

After months of work finally the new M! site has reached its Beta release, the functionality has vastly improved, now the blog section also sports a handy newsfeed aggregator, sections like the forum, the wiki and the event management have been put together in the new development section and the navigation is now easier.  Als, the B4 Republic blog has now a new adress, which is now www.brennerstrasse.org (our old adress we had lost but now found again!). We also moved from the bugging and not so functional blogger system to the much better wordpress, which is exactly what I am using here on this site.

Both templates have been created by me. The first one uses some code from the great Iceberg Template by  Joomla CSS Guide (if you are into joomla you should really check out this site!), while the second one is a theme called dark.cash by Jeff Malek, where I just chaged the colour, the header background and the site backgound… great theme for wordpress, really easy to set up and configure/customize!

È un po’che non postavo, già. Le motivazioni sempre le stesse: fare cose, vedere gente… e poi uno deve anche mantere un minimo di vita privata. L’ultimo periodo è stato bello pieno di cose, e molte altre ancora mi aspettano. Spero di poter postare man mano, almeno alcuni dei lavori prodotti in questi ultimi tempi. Intanto ecco una cosa nuova: come tutti gli anni ho avuto l’incarico di realizzare il programma della rassegna teatrale organizzata dall’Associazione Nuovo Spazio. Dopo nuvolose mongolfiere e misteriosi pennuti ho deciso di rivolgere il mio sguardo verso il mondo della botanica.

I’ve been missing for some time now, I know. The words I’d use to explain my absence are the same as ever, done things, been around, so I’ll just leave them apart. Anyway, I’ve been working on several things, some may even be interesting ones. I hope I’ll find the time to post them a bit at a time. In the meantime, something new: as every year, I was commissioned to design and illustrate the program for next year’s theatrical season organized by the local Association Nuovo Spazio. After cloudy balloons and misterious birds, this year, I decided to focus my creative energy on the world of botanics.

Joseph Roth, prima di morire, scrisse un breve romanzo intitolato La leggenda del santo bevitore. Una storia ambientata a Parigi in cui un barbone riceve 200 Franc da uno sconosciuto in cambio della promessa di poi donarli in chiesa ad una certa santa.
Durante lo sviluppo della storia, il protagonista spende e riguadagna diverse volte la somma originariamente ricevuta, fallendo sempre nel tentativo di “restituire” i soldi come pattuito donandoli alla santa, ma avanzando in un processo di graduale emancipazione dal suo status di senzatetto.

Ho realizzato 7 illustrazioni più copertina per un’ edizione tradotta in ladino (la terza lingua parlata qui da noi in Southtyrol) di questo libro. A dire il vero il romanzo non è proprio riuscito a coinvolgermi molto, quella leggerezza che spesso la critica vede come un’aspetto molto positivo di quest’opera, a me dava spesso una sensazione di poca profondità nella rappresentazione delle situazioni e dei personaggi. Comunque nonostante tutto ho trovato un mio modo per approcciarmi e ora sono molto soddisfatto dei risultati, soprattutto dell’illustrazione qui sopra.

I’ve recently done some illustrations for the ladin (which is the third language spoken here in South Tyrol) version of Joseph Roth’s The Legend of the Holy Drinker. I did not really like the book, found it a bit too simple and superficial regarding how he describes and defines the characters, but still I found my way into the story, and now I’m pretty satisfied with the results, especially by the one above.

Honey give me yo S, oltre ad un gioco di parole d’importanzione, è anche un progetto lanciato sul sito sketchthisout.com che consiste nel creare una esse per il logo “S T O” (sketch this out appunto). La mia esse, come era forse da aspettarsi, è un’essere tipografico vagamente lumacoso…
